GATEWAY
Background
Gateway is a workplace learning programme for Year 11/12/13 students interested in a career pathway in a particular industry.
Aims of Gateway
The aims of Gateway are to:
- Provide students with structured work-based training which is integrated with their school learning programme.
- Enable students to build pathways from school to the workplace, further education / training and apprenticeships.
- Enable students to:
- gain insights into working life
- gain skills in their chosen industry
- apply skills / knowledge to a workplace situation
- develop vocational skills while still at school
Workplace Learning
- Gateway gives students the opportunity to do workplace learning (during school time), which directly relates to their school-based programme and proposed career.
- Where possible students will complete work-based Unit Standards while on the job. The school will arrange for these unit standards to be assessed in the workplace.
- Students will be required to successfully complete a minimum number of school-based unit standards each term, before being permitted to go into a workplace.
Gateway Programme Entry Requirements
- Students will apply to enter Gateway, and be interviewed by the Gateway Co-ordinator to assess their suitability for the programme.
- Students must demonstrate a desire to pursue a career pathway in a chosen industry.
- Students must have the level of maturity, standard of behaviour, attitude and work ethic necessary to succeed at work-based training.
