HAURAKIAN
The Haurakian is an active organisation for past pupils, staff and friends of Hauraki Plains College and Ngatea District High School. Haurakians honour the traditions of excellence and timeless values we hold as a school, appreciate our unique heritage and proud story and join past and present in celebrating who we are. The Haurakian is funded by donations which can be made at any time. Regular contact between Haurakians is encouraged through quarterly broadsheets and reunions.

CENTENNIAL - 2012
In 1912 the pioneering community of Ngatea decided they needed a school for their children. A Lands and Survey Government Department building was borrowed and 'Orchard School' opened in March with a roll of 15 pupils. Two years later a small one room classroom was built at a cost of 120 pounds. Known as 'The Dogbox' a replica of this building stands proudly on the school grounds today.
From that year on the need for schooling in Ngatea grew and in 1923 the school changed to Ngatea District High School catering for pupils at a secondary level from the Hauraki Plains.
A change in Government education policy called for the split of primary from secondary and in 1963 the school name changed again to Hauraki Plains College as we know it today.
In 2012 March 23, 24 & 25 we will be celebrating 100 years!!!
Come and celebrate with us.
